Chocolate Chalkboard Teacher Gift

While on my weekend getaway (you might have seen a few pictures if you follow me on Instagram), I had a chance to get caught up on my magazine reading.  I saw the cutest idea in Family Fun magazine that I wanted to try with my kids for their teachers for their first day of school...

Chocolate chalkboards with a message written on the chocolate for their new teacher!

All we needed was large dark chocolate bars (the dark chocolate looks more like a chalkboard), powdered sugar, a toothpick or skewer stick, and a pastry brush.

Step 1:  Open up the chocolate, and write a message for the teacher with the toothpick.

Step 2:  Brush powdered sugar all over the chocolate bar, making sure to get inside the writing.  Brush of the excess sugar, and you are left with a little chalkboard chocolate bar, perfect for getting brownie points from teacher on the first day ;)

I'm going to package these bars up for the teachers, and my kids will give them away next week. My daughter brushed off the above bar herself, so I'll probably clean it up a bit before giving it away ;)  In the Family Fun version, they used caramel to make the outside frame of the board, but I left mine plain.  Either way is cute!

These don't have to be given just to teachers, though.  You could use them for any party, holiday, or just for fun!  Do you give your child's teacher anything on the first day of school?

For more chocolate fun, you can check out my Chocolate No-Bake Cookies, my favorite Special K Bars, or this delicious, moist Chocolate Cake recipe.  You can never go wrong with chocolate, right?!

If you liked this idea, I'd love for you to follow me on FacebookTwitterPinterestBloglovin', and Instagram.
