Polar Express Sleigh Bell Necklace

My all-time favorite Christmas book is The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg.  I taught elementary school for 7 years, and EVERY time I read this book to my students I would cry at the end... it's that good.  Or maybe I'm just a big cry baby.

In our advent calendar I made I have a wood activity coin that the kids pulled out that says "Polar Express" that we are going to do tonight.  I plan on reading them the book, having some hot hot hot hot choc-o-late (sorry, couldn't resist), and then giving each of them a little gift bag with a sleigh bell necklace inside, straight from Santa's sleigh.  If you've read the book (or watched the movie) you'll know the significance of the bell.  If you haven't read it (or seen it), what are you waiting for?  You won't regret it.

I made four sleigh bell necklaces, and it cost me less than $1 and less than 10 minutes to make all four of these!  They are so easy to make and are a good reminder to keep believing in Christmas and the Christmas spirit.

Supplies:

* Bells (I bought a pack of 9 big bells for $1 at the Dollar Tree, woo hoo!)
* Red or green ribbon
* Glue dot or glue gun (for bow- optional)

I feel a little silly writing out directions for these because they are so easy, but here you go!

 1.  Cut ribbon to desired length.  Make sure that it fits around your child's head, and can easily be slipped on and off with a knot (or tie a really loose knot every time they wear it).  Tie knot.

2.  If you would like to add a little bow to the top (I did one for my girls, but not for my boys), then make a little bow with some extra ribbon, trim the ends, and attach it to the top of the bell with either a glue dot or some hot glue.

DONE.  Easiest craft ever, but what child doesn't love a jingle bell around their neck, especially one straight from Santa's sleigh? ;)

I hope you enjoy this craft and try making one for your kids or grand kids, and please read them The Polar Express.  Yes, we all have the movie, but these is something special about this book.  I dare you not to cry!
